What are you willing to do to educate all children?
I am willing to do everything in my control to educate all children. I will apply various teaching techniques and keep an open mind to view and teach students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. There was a paragraph from this unit that really stood out to me.
The paragraph said 'Teachers must actively learn about their particular students in order to design instruction that will meet their needs. This includes being deliberate about trying to understand the cultural norms for communicating and collaborating that prevail in particular communities, how certain cultural and religious views affect what is considered appropriate in school, and the topics and issues that interest individual students and groups of students. It also means keeping track of what is happening in students’ personal lives so as to be able to respond appropriately when an out-of-school experience affects what is happening in school.'
It is important that as future teachers we adjust certain aspects of teaching so that our students always feel comfortable and safe in our classroom. I believe that students cannot learn if they do not feel safe. I strongly believe that teachers need to learn about their student's cultures and experiences to enhance their learning. Each student is different and they deserve to have their needs met in the classroom and I will do everything in my control to make that possible.
It is true that teachers need to know the students cultures and experiences so that they can grow their learning. It is important that students feel safe and comfortable so that they will be able to have the joy to learn and grow.
ReplyDeleteHey Cameron,
ReplyDeleteI also resonated with the paragraph that stood out to you. As future educators we can truly make a difference by learning about student’s lives, culture, and experiences. You made some great points by creating lesson plans that apply to them they will feel affirmation, enhance their learning, and safe in our classroom’s. We have so much power by becoming more aware. Through this module we only learned a few tools and strategies to help us have culturally responsive classrooms, and I believe as we gain more knowledge, we can honestly make a difference in many students lives. I do not know for you but this module gave me a different perspective on how to engage my students and how to become a better teacher. Cultural responsiveness has not always been a present thing in schools and just by you wanting to do everything in your control to meet the needs of your diverse classroom shows that you’ll be a great teacher!
