What rights should be protected for students and teachers?
I believe that students and teachers have the right to attend schools that are safe and conducive to learning. Both students and teachers deserve the right to freedom of speech. This right should be protected for students and teachers without any type of penalization towards them. Students' and teachers' voices should always be heard and considered. Teachers' rights often get overlooked because the focus is often always on the students. Teachers deserve rights just as students do. I think that teaching needs to be more valued. Teachers provide the power of education and are vital to student success.
Students deserve the right to a safe and inclusive classroom environment with no discrimination. Teachers also deserve the right to a safe and inclusive classroom environment with no discrimination. Unfortunately, students have to face harassment, bullying, and violence in the school system due to an unsafe environment. Another right that I believe students and teachers should have is being able to use the restroom at any time. A person should not ever be denied the right to go to the bathroom.
Teachers and students deserve basic human rights and the ability to use the restroom at school. Teachers and students should always be in an environment that respects their basic human dignity because they deserve basic human rights.
Hi Cameron,
ReplyDeleteIn the first part of your blog, you talk about having that safe space for not only our students but also for teachers at schools. It is important to have our rights protected so that we are able to voice are opinions or talk about our religion. I like how you mentioned that teachers’ rights get overlooked and the school is more focused on the students and not on their teachers as well. I believe that teachers and students should be looked at equally and not one more than the other. We tend to see more bullying and harassment because our students don’t have a safe place. The more we take the time to allow our students to be true to themselves and work more towards creating that safe environment then, I think we can eliminate these situations. I agree that teachers and students deserve the basic human rights in school and to be represented and respected by others.
"Students' and teachers' voices should always be heard and considered."
ReplyDeleteI love that this is the focus of your post. In each example that you gave, it was centered on the respect of both students and teachers. I agree that, especially now, the students' rights and protections are seen as first priority. While I absolutely do not think this should go away or stop being a priority, I also think that the rights and protections of teachers should be just as much of a priority. Your explanation that rights should be protected without any penalization is sadly something that I find very necessary. Too often, students and teachers are told that they have certain rights, but when they act on these rights, there are consequences. In situations like this, actions speak louder than words. We have to stop telling students and teachers that they can do something and then punishing them when they take it too far in someone's opinion.
Love your post. It is true teachers don't get the rights they deserve. Teachers need to be more valued because how much they do to provide lessons to students so that they can learn and grow. I loved when you said, "Teachers provide the power of education and are vital to student success." It is true teacher provide the power of education to teach the students and the vital to the student of success.
